A sculptural synthesis between biomorphic nature and synthetic imagination
Born from the collaboration between Nick Ervinck – who conceived and developed the project and digital model specifically for this purpose – and Angelino Artworks, which brought his extraordinary vision into physical form, CYRNILOI marks a new and significant milestone in the Belgian artist’s ongoing exploration of the liminal zones where nature, technology and sculptural imagination intertwine and transform.
This small-scale yet formally intricate work merges two central threads of Ervinck’s research: the mutating universe of BLOBs, digitally generated biomorphic forms, and the culturally stratified tradition of bonsai art.
The result is a hybrid creature that exists in the tension point between control and growth, between artificial perfection and organic resistance.
The sculpture features a trunk cast in painted aluminum, with glossy yellow surfaces that appear to capture a liquid flow of energy suddenly fixed in space. Its curves, knots and seemingly cellular geometries recall the aesthetic language of the BLOBs: a speculative alternative biology in which form no longer obeys the laws of gravity, anatomy or natural evolution. This is an organism generated rather than grown, born at the intersection of data, algorithms and aesthetic intuition.
Perched atop this floating body is a canopy in sintered and painted deep-blue nylon, echoing the density and refinement of an ancient bonsai. From afar it appears as a vaporous mass; up close it reveals an intricate lattice of micro-branching.
